Regional Workshop on Sharing Traditional Forest Knowledge for Ecosystem Services in ASEAN Countries

The workshop was successfully held at Crystal Crown Hotel, Kepong, Malaysia from 24 to 26 March 2014, attended by 14 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam.

Comparative Analysis of Transitions to Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation in Asia Pacific Region

The project "Comparative Analysis of Transitions to Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation in Asia Pacific Region", funded by the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet), was officially launched with an Inception Meeting on 6 November 2011 in Beijing, China. Nine economies from the region participated in this project: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam. A major output of this project is the set of nine national and case studies reports from these participating economies.

Global Environment Facility (GEF) Forest Invasives Southeast Asia

A project funded by GEF entitled "Removing Barriers to Invasive Species Management in Production and Protection Forests in SE Asia" aims to enhance the capacity of four pilot countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam) to manage IAS, particularly in forest ecosystems, by strengthening existing national frameworks for the prevention and management of IAS. The Regional Pan-Asia / Pacific consultation “Building Advanced National and Regional Capacities in Integrated Fire Management based on Participatory Involvement of Local Communities”

The consultation was successfully held in Lalitpur, Nepal, 20–22 November 2012. Seventy-two participants from 10 countries attended and contributed to the meeting. Additionally input papers were received from the Russian Federation and Indonesia.

The APAFRI Sixth General Assembly was successfully convened in Guangzhou, China which attended by 26 institutional members of APAFRI. Forest Research Institute of Malaysia was re-elected as the Chair of the APAFRI Executive Committee.

APAFRI has proposed to establish Twinning Programmes for its member institutions primarily for forestry research and development, education, and other forestry related matters. A Twinning Programme is a cooperation and collaboration arrangement between two institutions towards achieving mutually beneficial expectations.
